“JESUS Christ – the same yesterday, today and forever” Hebrews 13:8. In other words He is the same today as He was yesterday and will be tomorrow.
It is common knowledge that Excesses in anything is not good. For example: Excess in food can lead to obesity, Excess in exercise can lead to muscle strain or fatigue and excess of sleep can lead to morbidity which is the triggers or causes for many lifestyle diseases.
Most of the stresses of our lives are due to Excesses … excess past, excess present and excess future. In other words, we carry baggage and it gets heavier as we drag it from the past and into the future. Sometimes we are pursued by our own actions and decisions of the past. And we do not have the “sweat glands” to cool our conscience, forgive our ‘sins’ and complete the restorative process. That’s why we need God. He can do for us what we cannot do for ourselves. Don’t underestimate the power of a clear conscience as a mediator for good, resilient health.
Excess past results in depression. Excess present results in stress. Excess future results in anxiety.
The implication of the verse that JESUS is the same yesterday, today and forever is that His capacity to redeem you from the past, sustain you in the present and lead into the future does not diminish nor change. He is as willing to be with us today, as He was in the past and is willing to be the same in the future.
If we surrender our excess past to Him – He can cure our depression. If we submit our excess present to Him – we will be too blessed to be stressed. If we submit our excess future into His care – He will relieve us of all anxiety and give us peace that passes understanding. Only you know what ‘your’ excesses” are – take to Christ today.
There are certain things we have to carry into the future but we don’t have to carry everything into the future.
Carry people not problems.
Carry hopes and not the hurts.
Carry joy and not the sorrows
Carry the lessons but not the mistakes
Excess can prevent you, prohibit you and imprison you.
Today, JESUS can turn your past failure into future glory.
He can use the very thing intended to destroy you to bring you great fulfillment and joy.
With Christ you can access the past to redeem the lessons. You can visit the past and remember the incident but don’t feel the hurt, the pain and anger anymore. The past should be used like a rear view mirror just to indicate what you have passed. The past should not use you, abuse you or misuse you.
We have nothing to fear for the future lest we forget how the Lord has led us in the past.
No wonder He is called All-sufficient …
