At best we are all clay pots. Clay pots have no virtue of their own. See Isaiah 45v9. The people God used were inconsistent, flawed and defective.
Consider Elijah (1 Kings 19 v 3-10), who succumbed to depression and fear. David committed adultery and murder (2 Samuel 11). Abraham lied and lied again (Genesis 12v13; 20v2). Moses was slow of speech and he had a temper, Jonah tried to flee his prophetic commission and even Jesus’ disciples fled on the night of His betrayal. And there are much more. All of them were fragile, imperfect men of clay. Who made them great? The Potter!
Why is such priceless treasure, contained in clay pots? Because the more feeble the vessel, the more evident it is that the power is God’s. “It is not he who commends himself that is approved, but whom the Lord commends” (2 Corinthians 10v12; 17-18).
God is looking for people through whom He can reveal His glory.
God is looking for a person (claypots) like you – and me.
